New Work – Duck Tape 🦆 📼

New piece, hard light, punny and clean… hope you enjoy.

Duct tape, also referred to as duck tape, is cloth- or scrim-backed pressure-sensitive tape, often coated with polyethylene. There are a variety of constructions using different backings and adhesives. One variation is black gaffer tape, which is designed to be non-reflective and cleanly removed, unlike standard duct tape. Another variation is heat-resistant foil (not cloth) duct tape useful for sealing heating and cooling ducts, produced because standard duct tape fails quickly when used on heating ducts. Duct tape is generally silvery gray, but also available in other colors and even printed designs.

During World War II, Revolite (then a division of Johnson & Johnson) developed an adhesive tape made from a rubber-based adhesive applied to a durable duck cloth backing. This tape resisted water and was used as sealing tape on some ammunition cases during that period.

Turns out it’s not the easiest to source out VHS tapes anymore, where did time go?:)

For similar work, check of my pink series that won earlier this year at the Applied Arts Photography & Illustration Awards here.

Editorial Assignment – CB Magazine – Laurent Potdevin of Lululemon

I had the pleasure of visiting Lululemon again after having photographed an editorial portrait of their CEO Laurent Potdevin for The Wall Street Journal earlier. This time it was for a feature in Canadian Business Magazine.

We got to photograph Laurent in his office at the Lululemon headquarters in Vancouver. We did a wide environmental portrait and used a 4ft seamless behind the subject to separate and frame him. This was a request from the photo editor as this has been a concept and theme they have used in multiple editions of the magazine for these kind of features. We had a quick scout before the shoot day to find the best spot and which seamless colour would work for the concept and location.  For lighting we used a 3ft octabank as key light and a shoot through umbrella as fill and flood light. I think it all turned out well.

LAURENT POTDEVIN
A former president of Burton Snowboards and Toms Shoes, Laurent Potdevin joined Lululemon Athletica
in January 2014 with a mission to put product quality and image stumbles behind the clothing retailer. Today, one can only conclude he has succeeded: Sales should surpass US$2 billion this year, aided by overseas expansion and
a healthy 4% growth in comparable store sales, and the stock is once again testing its all-time highs. Born in Switzerland, Potdevin holds both an MBA and a master’s degree in engineering.

Editorial Assignment – Cover Shoot for ROB Magazine

I photographed the cover story for Report On Business Magazine a while back for their article about the messy takeover of Safeway by Sobeys. It was a pretty interesting assignment to photograph, I got to combine both my conceptual studio still life with my more eerie fine art work such as the the series Deserted and Silence.

The cover was also nominated for best magazine cover at the Magazines Awards by the Canadian National Media Awards Foundation.

Editorial Assignment – Laurent Potdevin, CEO of Lululemon for The Wall Street Journal

It’s time to get some updates up on the blog again. I have been neglecting it for the last few months as it has been a very busy time.

I’ll start of with posting this guy, his name is Laurent Potdevin and he is the CEO of Lululemon, I photographed him earlier this year for The Wall Street Journal and the article was published over the summer. Since then I have actually been back at Lululemon twice, photographing him for both Forbes Magazine and Canadian Business. He is a popular man!

Finally got around to share some new work, the piece is called Something Fishy and it’s an addition to my ongoing series of conceptual portraits. The image is featuring the great and talented Nancy von Euw and a slightly less cooperative member of the cephalopods family… Hope you enjoy.
