New Work – Duck Tape 🦆 📼

New piece, hard light, punny and clean… hope you enjoy.

Duct tape, also referred to as duck tape, is cloth- or scrim-backed pressure-sensitive tape, often coated with polyethylene. There are a variety of constructions using different backings and adhesives. One variation is black gaffer tape, which is designed to be non-reflective and cleanly removed, unlike standard duct tape. Another variation is heat-resistant foil (not cloth) duct tape useful for sealing heating and cooling ducts, produced because standard duct tape fails quickly when used on heating ducts. Duct tape is generally silvery gray, but also available in other colors and even printed designs.

During World War II, Revolite (then a division of Johnson & Johnson) developed an adhesive tape made from a rubber-based adhesive applied to a durable duck cloth backing. This tape resisted water and was used as sealing tape on some ammunition cases during that period.

Turns out it’s not the easiest to source out VHS tapes anymore, where did time go?:)

For similar work, check of my pink series that won earlier this year at the Applied Arts Photography & Illustration Awards here.

New Work – Unimpressed Kid

Here is a new piece I thought I would share. Please enjoy this conceptual portrait of a kid who is slightly unimpressed with his meal… frankly, I probably would have been as well. (At least I think it was the meal… it could also have been that his brother was sitting next door playing Game Boy in the studio lounge… Now – I’m saying Game Boy(it looked like one) not even knowing if thats still a thing? – But for the sake of kids nowadays I hope it is! I remember spending a summer (when I was a kid) doing gardening, painting and whatever else my parents could come up with for $2/hour to save up for one – but thats another story I suppose – I did finally end up with one though!)

And if you think he looks familiar… yet not. I might be because I’ve photographed his younger brother in the past, you can check him out HERE (if you forgot or just feel like it).

… and if your in Vancouver don’t forget to check out the “After Hours” group show by CAPIC, The Canadian Association of Professional Image Creators, which will showcase personal work by local commercial photographers… There should be lots of great work, the show is also part of the Capture Photography Festival which CAPIC supports… HERE is a few more details.

2014 Roundup

Thought I would wrap up the past year with a few highlights.

2014 was yet another great year… and a very busy one that is! I had the pleasure of meeting and working with some amazing people, photographed some great editorial and commercial assignments, shot a few personal projects and tried to fill in whatever free time was left with as many adventures as possible.

I’m very excited to continue this in the new year!… But before I get going, here are a few links to some selected highlights from the past year:

– Photographed Jeff Wall for Financial Times. More HERE.
– Featured in SPAM Magazine out of Milano, Italy. More HERE.
– Received 2 Hourable Mentions and the International Photography Awards out og Los Angeles. More HERE.
– Finished a new series called “ENTER”. More HERE.
– Worked with TAXI on a very fun advertising campaign for TELUS. More HERE.
– Shot Harry Chemko for Canadian Business Magazine. More HERE.
– I joined Instagram. Follow me HERE.
– Shot a fun little Halloween promo. More HERE.
– Did some travelling around BC and took some photos of some rocks… and some clouds. More HERE(rocks) and HERE(clouds).

… And then there are all the projects that I can’t or haven’t had a chance to reveal just yet!…

Anyways… 2015!… I welcome you with open arms!

New Work – James Challis, Vancouver Actor

A little while ago I had the pleasure of having James Challis in the studio for a little creative photo shoot, James is original from Australia but now resides here in Vancouver as an actor and is currently represented by the wonderful people at Maijah Lewk. In short, James is a great guy, easy to work with… and – though we didn’t compare – he might actually even have been taller than me… quite a rare find here in Canada, but thats a story for another day…

For this shoot I had Daniel Mathias help with producing, which is kinda funny, as I have actually photographed him in the past where we did this picture together. Also thanks to stylist, Michelle Davis and MUA, Noel Pozzer.

Oh, and on another note – I recently joined Instagram, so feel free to join me there if your into that kinda thing – @jenskristianballe.

Anyways, below are the results, hope you enjoy!
